China and Africa Embrace Closer Ties Through People-to-People Exchanges

China and Africa are set to deepen their ties through enhanced people-to-people exchanges, focusing on health, wellness, capacity building, and cultural programs. These initiatives aim to promote mutual understanding, strengthen friendships, and foster shared development between the two sides.

In 2021, the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was successfully held. At the opening ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the joint preparation of the China-Africa Cooperation Vision 2035. Under the first three-year plan of this vision, China will work closely with African countries to implement nine cooperation programs, enhancing collaboration across various sectors.

China’s Assistant Minister of Commerce Tang Wenhong highlighted the progress and achievements under these nine programs during a press conference on Tuesday. ‘Under the first three-year plan of this vision, China will work closely with African countries to implement the nine programs,’ Tang said.

The upcoming 2024 FOCAC Summit, scheduled from September 4 to 6 in Beijing, will provide an opportunity for China and Africa to renew their friendship and discuss further avenues for cooperation. In anticipation of this significant event, we explore some of the highlights of China-Africa cooperation in health and wellness, capacity building, and cultural exchanges, which are key components of the nine programs.
