China Retains Title as World’s Largest Industrial Robot Market for 11th Year

At the 2024 World Robot Conference in Beijing, Vice Minister Xin Guobin of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced on Thursday that China has maintained its position as the world’s largest market for industrial robots for the 11th consecutive year.

According to Vice Minister Xin, China’s industrial robot production reached an impressive 430,000 units in 2023. Over the past three years, the nation has accounted for more than half of the global market’s newly added robot installations, underscoring its significant role in the industry’s expansion.

Xin highlighted that after a decade of rapid advancement, China has not only propelled its own robotics industry but has also become a key driver of global growth in the sector.

He also noted significant strides in innovation and development within China’s robotics industry. Breakthroughs in areas such as bionic perception, cognitive functions, planning, and control technologies have positioned the country at the forefront of cutting-edge research.

As of July 2024, China holds over 190,000 effective robot-related patents, representing approximately two-thirds of the global total.

Xin emphasized the nation’s commitment to the “Robot plus Application” initiative, aimed at integrating robotics across diverse industries. Over the past decade, the density of robots in China’s manufacturing sector has soared from 49 to 470 units per 10,000 workers, illustrating the rapid automation and modernization of its industrial landscape.

The five-day World Robot Conference, which commenced on Wednesday in Beijing, hosts 169 enterprises from around the globe, including industry giants such as Tesla and Siasun. More than 600 robots are on display, with over 60 making their world debuts, offering attendees a glimpse into the future of robotics technology.
