The People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Fiji have taken a significant step to strengthen their ties, issuing a joint statement on Tuesday that outlines their shared commitments and plans for enhanced cooperation.
The statement reflects the dedication of both nations to their comprehensive strategic partnership, emphasizing mutual respect, equality, and the importance of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. Both sides affirmed that all countries, regardless of size, strength, or wealth, are equal, and that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected.
Recognizing the right of every nation to choose a development path suited to its own conditions, China and Fiji agreed to strengthen interaction at all levels. This includes expanding exchanges between their respective legislatures, government agencies, municipalities, and localities. They committed to sharing experiences on governance and development to further deepen political mutual trust.
The two countries also agreed to broaden cooperation in various sectors, such as tourism, education, health, agriculture, marine resource development, capacity building, sports, and cultural promotion. This expanded cooperation aims to benefit the peoples of both nations and contribute to the prosperity of the region.
Furthermore, China and Fiji expressed their commitment to working with all parties for the implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. They reiterated their dedication to upholding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as its cornerstone, and the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty.
