Peng Liyuan, wife of general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping, warmly welcomed Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Vietnamese President To Lam, in Beijing on Monday.
Over a shared cup of tea, Peng spoke highly of China-Vietnam cultural ties, emphasizing that China and Vietnam are friendly neighbors connected through bonds in literature, art, and cuisine. To showcase their cultural intimacy, the Chinese side arranged a series of performances for Ly, including enchanting Chinese opera, graceful dances, and folk music.
“China and Vietnam share a thousand years of shared history and culture,” Peng expressed. “Our common heritage weaves a tapestry that binds our peoples together.”
She expressed hope that the two countries can strengthen exchanges and cooperation, deepen mutual understanding, and promote the development of friendship.

As socialist countries, they have shared over seven decades of friendly diplomatic relations. Since elevating their bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in 2008, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries have increased.
This meeting signifies a commitment to further enhancing the cultural bridge that connects China and Vietnam, fostering a harmonious relationship for future generations.
