Global Youth to Innovate Space Science at Hong Kong Competition

On August 12, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will host the final competition of the 2024 International Space Science and Scientific Payload Competition, bringing together the brightest young minds in space science from around the world. Nearly 200 teams from more than 50 countries and regions have participated in this year’s competition, with total participants exceeding 1,000.

The competition aims to advance space science through innovative payload design and international collaboration. After rigorous preliminary rounds, 30 teams from 10 countries and regions have been selected to present their groundbreaking ideas and concepts in the final showdown in Hong Kong SAR.

The event not only provides a platform for talented youth to showcase their ingenuity but also fosters global cooperation in space exploration. Participants have developed pioneering payload designs that could potentially contribute to future space missions and the advancement of scientific knowledge.

In conjunction with the competition, a special round-table talk will be held on August 12 in Hong Kong SAR, featuring four distinguished guests in the field of space science:

  • Olivier Contant, Executive Director and Academician at the International Academy of Astronautics.
  • Xu Yansong, Director General of the Education and Training Department at the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization.
  • Bernard Foing, Executive Director of the International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG) and President of Space Renaissance International.
  • Niu Aimin, Vice President for International Cooperation at the USPACE Technology Group Limited.

These experts will engage in insightful discussions on the future of space science, the importance of collaborative efforts in payload design, and the role of young innovators in shaping the next era of space exploration. The round-table aims to inspire participants and attendees by sharing experiences and visions for advancing space science on a global scale.

The 2024 International Space Science and Scientific Payload Competition exemplifies the growing interest and investment in space science across Asia and the world. By nurturing the talents of young scientists and promoting international collaboration, the event contributes significantly to the dynamic and influential role Asia plays in global space affairs.
