In a significant step towards addressing the longstanding Palestinian issue, Zhai Jun, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East issue, held a phone conversation with Wolfgang Amadeus Brulhart, the Swiss Envoy to the Middle East, on Monday. The discussion centered on promoting national unity among Palestinian factions and advancing the two-state solution.

Zhai Jun highlighted China’s efforts in facilitating dialogue among 14 Palestinian factions during a reconciliation meeting held in Beijing this July. “China sincerely hopes that various Palestinian factions will realize national unity and establish an independent country at an early date based on internal reconciliation,” he stated, emphasizing China’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region.

Expressing appreciation for Switzerland’s active role in implementing the two-state solution, Zhai Jun affirmed China’s willingness to collaborate with Switzerland to make positive contributions towards regional peace. “China appreciates Switzerland’s active efforts and is willing to work together to promote stability,” he added.

Swiss Envoy Wolfgang Amadeus Brulhart congratulated China on mediating the reconciliation dialogue and the signing of the Beijing Declaration, hailing it as a significant achievement. “Switzerland shares the same position with China regarding the reconciliation among Palestinian factions,” Brulhart remarked. He underscored that a unified stance among Palestinian factions is a prerequisite for realizing the two-state solution and resolving the Palestinian issue.

Both envoys agreed to maintain open communication on the matter, recognizing the importance of international cooperation in achieving lasting peace. They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East, reaffirming their commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts in the region.
