The world is veering onto the wrong path due to increasing protectionism by Western nations, according to former Polish Deputy Premier Grzegorz Kolodko. He believes that the inability of the West to compete with China in various economic sectors has led to policies that hinder free trade, pushing the global community towards a potential “second Cold War.”
Kolodko highlighted that globalization is an irreversible trend, and attempts to counter it through protectionist measures are counterproductive. “When nations resort to isolating policies because they cannot compete, it not only hampers economic growth but also strains international relations,” he stated.
The former deputy premier emphasized the importance of embracing globalization for mutual benefit. He suggested that instead of erecting barriers, countries should seek collaborative solutions that enhance global economic integration and promote fair competition.
“We must recognize that the world economy thrives when nations work together, not against each other. The rise of any nation, including China, should be seen as an opportunity for partnership rather than a threat,” Kolodko asserted.
He warned that continued protectionism could lead to heightened tensions reminiscent of the Cold War era, which could have far-reaching consequences for global stability. “It’s imperative that we steer away from policies that divide and focus on building bridges that foster cooperation and understanding,” he urged.
Kolodko’s insights offer a critical perspective on the current trajectory of international economic policies and underscore the need for a renewed commitment to global collaboration.
