China Donates $3 Million to Support UNRWA’s Humanitarian Efforts in Gaza

In a significant gesture of solidarity, the People’s Republic of China has donated $3 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to bolster emergency humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

On Thursday, Zeng Jixin, head of the Office of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Palestine, formalized the contribution by signing an agreement with Antonia Marie De Meo, Deputy Commissioner General (Operational Support) of the UNRWA. The ceremony underscored China’s continued commitment to supporting the Palestinian people amid ongoing challenges.

“China has always supported the UNRWA’s active performance of its duty and calls on the international community to support the agency’s work,” Zeng stated. He highlighted that China had previously provided emergency cash assistance to the UNRWA following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict last year.

Zeng emphasized China’s dedication to implementing the Global Security Initiative, expressing a willingness to collaborate with the international community to end the fighting in Gaza swiftly, alleviate the severe humanitarian situation, and advance the two-state solution.

Antonia Marie De Meo, speaking on behalf of the UNRWA, expressed profound gratitude for China’s consistent support. “China’s contribution is critical to our efforts,” she remarked, noting that the donation would have a substantial impact on the agency’s ability to provide essential services and relief to those affected in Gaza.

She also conveyed a strong desire to strengthen cooperation with China moving forward, aiming to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and improve the living conditions of the Palestinian people.

The donation comes at a crucial time, as Gaza continues to face significant humanitarian challenges. China’s support is seen as a pivotal step in mobilizing international assistance and highlighting the need for a collective response to the ongoing situation.
