Premier Li and Prime Minister Meloni Advocate Stronger China-Italy Economic Ties

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni jointly attended the opening ceremony of the seventh meeting of the China-Italy Entrepreneurs Committee in Beijing on Sunday. The leaders called for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between China and Italy, emphasizing the importance of deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Premier Li highlighted the positive role the Entrepreneurs Committee has played since its establishment a decade ago, fostering economic collaboration and strengthening bilateral relations. “Against the backdrop of a sluggish global economic recovery, China and Italy should strengthen economic and trade cooperation to inject more impetus into the development of both countries,” Li stated.

He urged both nations to promote and practice the Silk Road spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, and mutual benefit. Li called for adherence to the principle of mutual benefit, supporting each other’s development, and working together to achieve common prosperity.

Li noted that advancing the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership would create stable expectations for economic and trade cooperation, bringing broader opportunities for both sides. He emphasized that China’s ongoing high-quality development and modernization efforts would not only boost China’s economy but also unlock vast potential for Sino-Italian enterprise cooperation.

“We should support enterprises of both sides in tapping the potential of cooperation in smart manufacturing, new energy, biomedicine, and other fields,” Li said. He assured that China would further open its doors to Italian companies, create a transparent and predictable institutional environment, relax market access, and guarantee national treatment for foreign companies investing in China.

Prime Minister Meloni expressed Italy’s commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China. She highlighted the complementary advantages of both countries and the importance of enhancing economic and trade cooperation. “Italy is willing to expand practical cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment, and artificial intelligence on the basis of mutual respect and trust, fairness, and mutual benefit,” Meloni said.

Meloni called for innovative cooperation models to enhance enterprise competitiveness and jointly address global challenges. She expressed hope that increased economic and trade cooperation would yield more results and inject new momentum into bilateral relations.

The event was attended by more than 150 entrepreneurs from China and Italy, showcasing the mutual interest in deepening economic ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
