Xi Jinping Chairs Symposium to Gather Non-CPC Views on Reform Resolution

In a significant step towards advancing Chinese modernization, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a symposium on May 20 to gather insights from non-CPC representatives on a key reform resolution.

The resolution, focusing on comprehensively deepening reforms, was officially adopted at the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee held earlier this week from Monday to Thursday.

Leaders from central committees of non-CPC parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and individuals with no party affiliation attended the symposium, reflecting a broad inclusion of perspectives in China’s reform agenda.

Xi emphasized that the symposium aimed to systematically plan and arrange further deepening of reforms, providing strong impetus and institutional guarantees to achieve the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects.

Achieving the Second Centenary Goal follows the realization of the First Centenary Goal in 2021, when Xi declared the establishment of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. China is now charting its course towards becoming a prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, and harmonious modern socialist country by the middle of the 21st century.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, including Wang Huning, Cai Qi, and Ding Xuexiang, were present at the symposium, signaling high-level support for inclusive dialogue on reform.

During the meeting, non-CPC representatives offered opinions and suggestions on vital issues such as stimulating economic vitality, reforming the medical and healthcare systems, advancing high-standard opening up, and promoting integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.

Xi acknowledged the longstanding practice of the CPC Central Committee to seek opinions from all sectors when researching major issues and formulating important documents. He called for efforts to address deep-seated institutional obstacles and structural problems, focusing particularly on economic structural reform.

He stressed the necessity of fully mobilizing the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of the entire Party and nation. Xi urged that reforms must be carried out effectively with well-crafted plans and targeted policy enforcement, cautioning against losing sight of reality.

By engaging a wide range of perspectives, the CPC aims to ensure that the reform measures are comprehensive and grounded, further propelling China’s modernization efforts towards the ambitious goals set for the mid-21st century.
