The UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, China’s leading independent contemporary art institution, has announced the launch of its newest museum, UCCA Clay, scheduled to open in October 2024.
Situated in Yixing, known as China’s “City of Ceramics,” about a two-hour drive west of Shanghai, the 2,400-square-meter museum will focus on contemporary ceramic art and culture. UCCA Clay aims to promote exchanges between practitioners of traditional local arts and customs and the global contemporary art scene.
The new museum represents UCCA’s commitment to fostering dialogue between local artistic traditions and international contemporary art. By establishing a presence in Yixing, UCCA Clay seeks to highlight the rich heritage of ceramic arts in the region while providing a platform for innovative artistic expression.
As UCCA’s fourth museum, following locations in Beijing, Qinhuangdao, and Shanghai, UCCA Clay continues the institution’s mission to make contemporary art accessible to a broader audience. The museum is expected to host a variety of exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events that engage both the local community and visitors from around the world.
Art enthusiasts, investors, and cultural explorers alike anticipate that UCCA Clay will become a significant landmark in China’s cultural landscape, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity in the art world.
