Xi’an Unveils New Postcard Set Showcasing the Terracotta Army

In a celebration of China’s rich cultural heritage, a special set of postage postcards featuring the legendary Terracotta Army was officially released on July 15 at the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.

The collection, priced at 5.5 yuan, comprises five meticulously designed postcards. Each card showcases a different figure from the ancient army: a high-ranking military officer, an armored warrior, a kneeling archer with a distinctive green face, a standing archer, and a standing figure with his hands tucked into his sleeves. These images offer a glimpse into the remarkable craftsmanship and historical significance of the Terracotta Army, which has captivated visitors from around the world.

The stamps on the postcards have a total face value of 80 cents. With a limited issuance of 657,000 sets, these postcards are anticipated to become cherished collectibles for philatelists and history enthusiasts alike.

The release of this postcard set not only commemorates one of China’s most iconic archaeological discoveries but also aims to promote cultural exchange and tourism in the region. The Terracotta Army, buried with Emperor Qinshihuang over two millennia ago, remains a symbol of ancient China’s grandeur and continues to draw scholars and visitors eager to explore its mysteries.
