Xi Jinping’s Insights on Self-Confidence and Self-Reliance to be Published in Key CPC Journal

An influential article by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, is set to be published on Tuesday, shedding light on the themes of self-confidence and self-reliance as cornerstones for China’s future development.

The piece, which will appear in the 14th issue of this year’s Qiushi Journal—a flagship publication of the CPC Central Committee—compiles key excerpts from Xi’s significant discourses spanning from January 2013 to March 2024.

In his reflections, Xi, who also serves as Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasizes that the Chinese people and nation have historically lacked a prescribed blueprint to overcome challenges and achieve rejuvenation. “There has never been an instruction manual or ready-made solution for the Chinese people and the Chinese nation to turn to as they fought to end the great sufferings endured since the advent of modern times and move on toward the bright future of rejuvenation,” the article notes.

Highlighting the century-long journey of the CPC in leading the nation towards success, Xi stresses the importance of unwavering belief in the nation’s guiding principles. “We must remain firm in our conviction in Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics,” he asserts.

The article underscores that self-confidence is fundamental to achieving self-reliance. “The Party’s endeavors and major achievements over the past century provide the most solid foundation for strengthening our confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” it states.

Addressing the path towards Chinese modernization, Xi calls for continued independence and self-reliance. “We must develop our country and our nation with our own strength, and maintain a firm grasp on the future of China’s development and progress,” he emphasizes.

He cautions that without steadfast confidence in the nation’s system, the courage to pursue further reforms may waver. “Continuing our reform to a deeper level involves improving our socialist system with Chinese characteristics. When we say boosting our confidence in the system, we do not mean to be complacent. Instead, we should continue to eradicate drawbacks in the system and make it more mature and more enduring,” he explains.

Xi concludes by expressing optimism about the progressive enhancement of China’s institutions. “As socialism progresses, China’s institutions will surely become more mature, and the strengths of China’s socialist system will become more self-evident,” the article adds.

The forthcoming publication is anticipated to offer valuable insights into the CPC’s strategic vision, resonating with readers interested in China’s political and socio-economic trajectory.
