Nishan Forum 2023 Explores Confucianism’s Modern Resonance

The Nishan Forum convened on July 10th in Qufu, Shandong Province, drawing scholars and thinkers from around the world to the birthplace of Confucius. Nishan, steeped in millennia of Chinese culture, provided a fitting backdrop for discussions on the enduring relevance of Confucian philosophy in the modern era.

In the series “Real China: Books & Beyond,” former Icelandic diplomat Ragnar Baldursson highlighted the crucial role of Confucian values in shaping China’s governance. Baldursson emphasized that principles such as harmony, respect, and collective responsibility continue to influence the nation’s approach to leadership and society.

CGTN’s Liu Xin engaged with Baldursson and other experts to delve into how these ancient teachings resonate with contemporary challenges. The dialogue underscored the potential of Confucian thought to contribute to global discourse on governance, ethics, and cultural understanding.

The forum served as a platform for cross-cultural exchange, fostering insights relevant to business professionals, academics, and cultural enthusiasts alike. Participants explored how revisiting classical wisdom can inform modern policy-making and societal development, both within China and internationally.
