Global Youth Unite at BISU to Explore Heroism Across Cultures
In an inspiring gathering at Beijing International Studies University (BISU), young representatives from Spain, Cambodia, and China came together to delve into the evolving concept of heroism in today’s world. The latest episode of “The Power of Youth+”, hosted by CGTN’s Enoch Wong, offered a platform for these voices to share their unique perspectives on heroes from their countries and cultures.
The event explored what heroes mean in different cultures around the globe, highlighting how the spirit of heroism transcends borders. Participants engaged in lively discussions, reflecting on historical figures, modern-day influencers, and unsung heroes who have shaped their societies.
“In Spain, heroes are often celebrated for their contributions to art and culture,” said Maria Garcia, a student representative from Spain. “We look up to figures who have inspired change through creativity and innovation.”
Sokha Phan, representing Cambodia, shared, “Our heroes are those who have worked tirelessly to rebuild our nation and preserve our heritage after years of hardship. They embody resilience and hope for the future.”
Li Wei from China highlighted the importance of community and collective efforts. “Chinese heroes often put the greater good above personal interests. Their selflessness is a testament to our shared values,” he noted.
The discussion also addressed how young people today view heroism compared to previous generations. Many agreed that while traditional heroes remain influential, contemporary youth are inspired by individuals advocating for social justice, environmental protection, and technological advancement.
“In our fast-paced world, the definition of a hero has expanded,” host Enoch Wong observed. “Today’s heroes are not just mythical figures or historical icons but also everyday people making a difference in their communities.”
The event emphasized the need to pass on and celebrate the spirit of heroism, encouraging young people to become the heroes of a new era. By understanding and appreciating diverse cultural perspectives, the participants highlighted the potential for global unity and cooperation.
“We all have the capacity to be heroes in our own way,” concluded Li Wei. “By embracing our shared values and working together, we can create a better future for everyone.”
