Heavy Rains Paralyze Mumbai: Schools Closed, Exams Postponed

Heavy monsoon rains have brought Mumbai, India’s financial capital, to a standstill, leading to the closure of schools and other educational institutions in and around the city. University examinations scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed as a precautionary measure.

Over the past 20 hours, Mumbai has been drenched with more than 300 millimeters of rainfall in various locations, causing severe waterlogging across numerous areas. Transport services, including trains and flights, have been adversely affected, stranding commuters and disrupting schedules.

The University of Mumbai announced the postponement of all exams slated for Tuesday, stating that “new dates will be announced soon.”

To ensure public safety, teams from the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed to several regions in and around Mumbai. Residents in low-lying areas have been evacuated to safer locations amid rising water levels.

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that the heavy rains are expected to continue over the next couple of days, affecting Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra state.
