China expressed optimism ahead of the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), expecting the summit to foster greater consensus and enhance collaboration among member nations. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on Monday that the gathering aims to contribute positively to regional security, stability, development, and the creation of a global community with a shared future.
From July 2 to 6, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the SCO summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, and undertake state visits to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. During the summit, President Xi is scheduled to engage with leaders of participating countries to discuss deepening cooperation on major international and regional issues and to outline plans for the SCO’s future development, according to Mao.
Highlighting the significance of the event, Mao noted that the upcoming summit is the most important within the SCO framework this year. Following the summit, China will assume the rotating presidency of the organization for 2024 and 2025. China is committed to working with all parties to strengthen cooperation in politics, security, economy, trade, and people-to-people exchanges, Mao added.
China aims to build a closer SCO community with a shared future, delivering greater benefits to regional populations and contributing to lasting world peace and common prosperity, she said.
