Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to embark on a significant diplomatic journey from July 2 to 6. He will attend the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan, and will pay state visits to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Sunday.
President Xi’s participation in the SCO summit underscores China’s commitment to regional cooperation and multilateralism. The SCO, which comprises major Eurasian nations, plays a pivotal role in promoting political, economic, and security collaboration across the region.
During his visit to Kazakhstan, President Xi will meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The two leaders are expected to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing economic cooperation, and exploring new opportunities within China’s Belt and Road Initiative—a significant portion of which passes through Kazakhstan.
Following his engagements in Kazakhstan, President Xi will proceed to Tajikistan to meet with President Emomali Rahmon. The discussions are anticipated to focus on deepening strategic partnerships, boosting trade relations, and collaborating on regional security matters.
These state visits highlight China’s growing influence and strategic interests in Central Asia. They also reflect a shared commitment among the involved nations to foster stability, economic growth, and cultural exchange within the region.
