In a significant move to enhance regional media cooperation, CGTN and Kazakhstan’s Silk Way TV have launched a series of joint programs leading up to the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana, scheduled for July 3 to July 4.
The joint initiatives include a teleconference connecting studios in Beijing and Astana, where anchors from both countries engage in discussions on various SCO-related themes. Scholars and experts contribute insights on the SCO’s development and future agenda, fostering a deeper understanding of regional cooperation.
Special segments presented by senior journalists from both networks will highlight the achievements of the SCO and the strengthening bilateral relations between China and Kazakhstan. Topics cover government-to-government connections, economic collaboration, and cultural exchanges, showcasing the multifaceted ties between the two nations.
An additional roundtable discussion is set to take place at Silk Way’s headquarters in Astana, bringing together thought leaders to deliberate on pressing regional issues and opportunities.
During a visit to Silk Way’s headquarters, Xu Zhaoqun, deputy director of CGTN’s news gathering department, emphasized the shared mission between CGTN and Silk Way TV. Xu expressed optimism for expanding collaboration in breaking news coverage, program production, and reporting on significant regional events.
Ainur Imangali, editor-in-chief of Silk Way TV, underscored the pivotal role of media in fostering mutual understanding among cultures. She highlighted the importance of enhanced cooperation between national broadcasters during the SCO Summit.
The joint programs are slated to air by the end of June on both CGTN and Silk Way’s TV channels, as well as their digital media platforms, reaching a global audience eager for insights into the SCO’s initiatives.
