Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met on Monday during the Ninth China-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting, signaling a commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation on regional and international issues. Premier Li emphasized China’s readiness to enhance coordination with Australia, calling for mutual opposition to “camp confrontation” and the onset of a “new Cold War.”
“Since Prime Minister Albanese’s visit to China last November, our nations have seen a comprehensive turnaround in relations,” Premier Li stated. “We have restored and developed dialogue and cooperation across various fields. China is willing to work with Australia to maintain and further this hard-won positive momentum.”
Highlighting the mutual benefits of a strong China-Australia relationship, Premier Li described the development of both nations as opportunities rather than challenges to each other. He expressed China’s willingness to persist in its comprehensive strategic partnership with Australia, leveraging mechanisms such as the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue to boost trade and expand cooperation in areas like new energy vehicles and renewable energy generation.
Premier Li also underscored the importance of strengthening subnational, cultural, and tourism exchanges. “We hope the Australian side can provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises,” he said, adding that facilitating personnel exchanges would further enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.
Looking towards the future, Premier Li voiced China’s readiness to work with Australia in advancing regional economic integration and building an open world economy. “By collaborating closely, we can contribute significantly to regional prosperity and stability,” he concluded.
