China Unveils Massive High-Speed Train Maintenance Hub in Southwest

Chengdu, China — On Friday, the Tianfu high-speed train maintenance base, the largest facility of its kind in southwest China, officially began operations. Nestled in the Tianfu New Area of Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, this expansive base covers approximately 2,090 mu (about 1.39 square kilometers) and comprises two sprawling yards, east and west.

Designed to bolster China’s rapidly expanding high-speed rail network, the base is equipped with 24 maintenance lines, enabling it to service up to 180 standard train sets daily. Currently, the east yard is operational, featuring 12 lines capable of handling maintenance for up to 90 multiple-unit trains per day at full capacity. The west yard is expected to become operational in the near future, further enhancing the facility’s capacity.

The Tianfu base is at the forefront of integrating advanced technology into railway maintenance. Its state-of-the-art command system leverages a new generation of information technology and intelligent equipment, facilitating real-time monitoring of various maintenance operations. This system allows for real-time tracking and sharing of maintenance data, as well as intelligent scheduling of maintenance plans, significantly improving efficiency and safety.

The launch of the Tianfu maintenance base marks a significant milestone in China’s commitment to advancing its high-speed rail capabilities. As the nation’s railway network continues to grow, facilities like Tianfu are essential for ensuring the reliability and performance of the trains that connect cities and regions across the country.

With this new base, Chengdu strengthens its position as a pivotal transport hub in southwest China, promoting regional development and enhancing connectivity within Asia. The integration of cutting-edge technology in maintenance practices also sets a new benchmark for the industry, offering valuable insights for global railway operations.
