China and New Zealand Set to Upgrade Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has expressed China’s readiness to enhance its comprehensive strategic partnership with New Zealand, emphasizing a shared commitment to common values and traditional friendship. Speaking at a welcome banquet in Auckland alongside New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Li underscored the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

“China is willing to work with New Zealand to deepen and expand cooperation in fields including biomedicine, agriculture, food, new energy, and the digital economy,” Li stated. He highlighted the potential for both nations to strengthen coordination in multilateral arenas, contributing to peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Li noted the positive trajectory of China’s economic recovery, affirming that the “long-term positive trend of the Chinese economy will not change.” He emphasized China’s willingness to share development opportunities with other countries to achieve common growth.

Prime Minister Luxon acknowledged the significance of New Zealand-China relations, describing it as one of the most important external relationships for New Zealand. “We will continue to prioritize New Zealand-China ties in our diplomacy,” Luxon said. He emphasized the desire to deepen cooperation in economy and trade, agriculture, intellectual property, education, and tourism. Luxon also stressed the importance of jointly protecting the environment and addressing global challenges such as climate change.

The dialogue between the two leaders signifies a commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and underscores the mutual benefits of collaboration in various strategic sectors.
