UN Adopts China’s Resolution for International Day of Dialogue Among Civilizations

The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution proposed by China to designate June 10 as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. The resolution calls for “equal dialogue and mutual respect” among civilizations, reflecting the essence of the Global Civilization Initiative.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has long emphasized the importance of promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. On multiple occasions, he has articulated his vision for a world where diverse cultures coexist harmoniously. “Civilizations become richer and more colorful through exchanges and mutual learning,” President Xi has stated, highlighting that no civilization is superior to others and each has unique value.

The adoption of this resolution signifies a global acknowledgment of the need for dialogue in an increasingly interconnected world. It underscores the role of cultural understanding in fostering international cooperation and peace. The International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations aims to encourage nations and peoples to engage in cultural exchanges, deepen mutual respect, and work collaboratively towards a harmonious global community.

The Global Civilization Initiative, echoed in the resolution, encourages embracing diversity and learning from one another. As June 10 approaches, countries are expected to organize events and activities that promote intercultural understanding and celebrate the rich tapestry of global civilizations.
