China’s AC311A Helicopter Soars in Successful Plateau Sling-Load Test in Lhasa

China’s domestically developed AC311A civil helicopter has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing a high-altitude sling-load flight test in Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region. The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the nation’s leading aircraft manufacturer, announced the accomplishment, highlighting the helicopter’s exceptional performance in plateau conditions.

The light, single-engine AC311A undertook the challenging test by lifting 325 kilograms of freight at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The operation took place at a general-use airport in Lhasa, where thin air and harsh environmental conditions pose difficulties for aviation activities. Despite these challenges, the AC311A demonstrated impressive flight controllability and stability.

During the test, the helicopter executed a series of maneuvers, including climbing, turning, level flight, and gliding, before safely returning to the ground. The successful completion of these activities not only validates the aircraft’s design and capabilities but also marks a step forward in China’s aviation technology, particularly for operations in high-altitude regions.

The AC311A is a six-seat, two-tonne light civil helicopter with a maximum take-off weight of 2,250 kilograms. It boasts a maximum cruise speed of 240 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 630 kilometers. Importantly, it has a service ceiling of 6,000 meters, making it well-suited for missions in mountainous and plateau areas.

This achievement signifies the growing prowess of China’s aviation industry in producing advanced aircraft capable of performing specialized tasks in demanding environments. The success of the AC311A’s sling-load test opens new possibilities for its application in logistics, emergency rescue, and other civil aviation needs in high-altitude regions, both within China and potentially in other parts of Asia.

As the AC311A moves closer to operational deployment, its capabilities may offer valuable solutions for businesses, government agencies, and humanitarian organizations operating in challenging terrains.
