Armenian Student at Ningbo University Encourages China’s Gaokao Candidates

As millions of students across China sit for the annual national college entrance examination, known as the gaokao, an Armenian student studying at Ningbo University offers her support and shares her own experiences with high-stakes testing.

Arina, who spent her middle school years in Russia before pursuing higher education in China, compared the gaokao to Russia’s Unified State Exam. “In Russia, the test contents are determined by the university and the majors students apply for, but Russian language and mathematics are required subjects,” she explained. “Some exams last for around three hours and 55 minutes.”

Understanding the pressure and significance of such examinations, Arina extended her heartfelt wishes to Chinese students embarking on their gaokao journey. “Stay calm and focused. Good luck!” she said, emphasizing the importance of composure during this critical time.

The gaokao is not only a pivotal moment for students in China but also a phenomenon that resonates with students worldwide who face similar national examinations determining their academic futures. Arina’s message highlights the shared experiences of students across different cultures and educational systems.
