In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and his Brazilian counterpart Geraldo Alckmin co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee (COSBAN) on Thursday in Beijing.
The meeting marked a renewed commitment between the two major developing nations to enhance cooperation across various sectors. Vice President Han highlighted the strong strategic guidance provided by the heads of state from both countries, emphasizing that China and Brazil have been steadfast in supporting each other on issues concerning their core interests.
“Under the leadership of our presidents, we have deepened political mutual trust and strengthened strategic coordination,” Han stated. “Our win-win cooperation has yielded tangible results, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, and aerospace, setting an exemplary model for South-South cooperation.”
Geraldo Alckmin, who also serves as Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, echoed Han’s sentiments. He underlined the importance of the China-Brazil partnership in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.
“Brazil views its relationship with China from a strategic and long-term perspective,” Alckmin said. “We are committed to further strengthening strategic communication and deepening our mutually beneficial friendship and pragmatic cooperation.”
Both leaders acknowledged the role of China and Brazil as key members of BRICS—a grouping that includes Russia, India, and South Africa—and their shared interests in promoting multilateralism and global economic stability.
The COSBAN meeting focused on expanding collaboration in various domains, including technology, energy, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges. The two sides agreed to explore new avenues for cooperation, aiming to inject fresh momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
This meeting comes at a critical time when global economic uncertainties necessitate strong partnerships between emerging economies. China and Brazil’s commitment to working closely not only contributes to their national interests but also plays a pivotal role in shaping the economic landscape of the broader Asian and Latin American regions.
