Wednesday marks World Environment Day, a global call to action encouraging individuals and nations to protect the environment. This year’s campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification, and enhancing drought resilience.
Over the past decade, China has significantly intensified its greening efforts. Official data indicates that 58.9 million hectares of forest have been planted, contributing to a substantial increase in forest coverage across the country.
From 2018 to 2023, China has also made remarkable progress in grassland improvement and desertification control. 23.3 million hectares of grassland have been enhanced through grass planting initiatives, while 12 million hectares of land have been reclaimed from desertification.
These efforts not only contribute to global environmental sustainability but also promote biodiversity, improve air quality, and support rural economies. China’s commitment to environmental restoration serves as a significant example for other nations striving to balance development with ecological conservation.
As the world observes World Environment Day, China’s achievements underscore the impact of concerted environmental efforts and the importance of international cooperation in addressing ecological challenges.
