As the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) celebrated its 30th anniversary on Monday, President Xi Jinping sent a heartfelt congratulatory letter, urging the institution to bolster China’s self-reliance and strength in science and technology.
President Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the pivotal role of the CAE as a national strategic sci-tech force. He called upon the academy to continue uniting engineering experts and innovators to drive the nation’s technological advancement.
“Over the past 30 years, the CAE, under the strong leadership of the Party, has united academics and engineering technology workers to promote the development of engineering technology, overcome sci-tech difficulties, and build major national projects and equipment,” Xi noted in his letter. “This has made important contributions to promoting China’s innovation and progress in engineering technology, as well as high-quality economic and social development.”
Xi extended warm congratulations and sincere greetings to CAE academics and engineering professionals on behalf of the CPC Central Committee. He expressed confidence that the academy would continue to play a significant role in achieving China’s goals of sci-tech innovation and self-sufficiency.
The CAE, since its establishment in 1993, has been instrumental in uniting the nation’s top engineering minds to address critical challenges and advance technological progress. The academy has been at the forefront of significant national projects, contributing to China’s rapid growth and development in various engineering fields.
As China enters a new era of innovation-driven development, Xi’s call to action highlights the importance of self-reliance in science and technology. The CAE is expected to intensify its efforts in fostering innovation, nurturing talent, and contributing to the country’s long-term strategic goals.
