England’s Southgate Optimistic About Luke Shaw’s Euro 2024 Return

England manager Gareth Southgate has expressed optimism about Luke Shaw’s chances of participating in the upcoming UEFA European Championship in Germany. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Southgate highlighted Shaw’s significant progress in recovering from his injury.

“He’s progressing very well, I have to say,” Southgate told TalkSport. “I think I said last week that until we had the players in front of us working with us, there was a lot of information that we didn’t have.”

Shaw, the Manchester United defender, has been sidelined since suffering a muscular injury during a Premier League match against Luton Town on February 18. Despite this setback, Southgate remains hopeful about Shaw’s return to the national squad. “We’re pleased with how he’s progressing. There’s still a bit to do before he can get on the pitch in a game situation. But really pleased with the work he’s doing with our physical performance team and our medics, so, yeah, he’s in with a good chance,” the England boss added.

Shaw’s potential return is significant for England’s defensive lineup ahead of Euro 2024. Since joining Manchester United from Southampton in 2014, Shaw has made 275 appearances, scoring four goals and providing 28 assists. On the international stage, he has earned 31 caps for England, contributing three goals and nine assists.

The UEFA European Championship is a crucial tournament for England, and having experienced players like Shaw could bolster the team’s prospects. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching his rehabilitation progress as the tournament approaches.
