Sudanese Children Share Hopes for Peace and Rebuilding on International Children’s Day

As conflict continues to disrupt their daily lives, Sudanese children are looking to the future with dreams of peace, healing, and reconstruction. On International Children’s Day, children across Sudan expressed their aspirations to become doctors, engineers, and pilots—not just as careers, but as a means to mend their war-torn country.

Thirteen-year-old Nasr al-Din Ibrahim Abdullah Mirghani spoke candidly about his wishes. “I hope the war will end so everyone can return home safely,” he told CGTN during interviews conducted on the streets of Sudan. For Nasr and many others, the desire to rebuild their damaged homes and communities is a driving force behind their ambitions.

Many children aspire to become doctors to treat family members and those in need amidst the turmoil. Others dream of engineering to reconstruct infrastructure destroyed by conflict. Some wish to become pilots, symbolizing a yearning to explore a world beyond the boundaries imposed by war.

These heartfelt wishes underscore the resilience of Sudan’s younger generation. Despite the challenges they face, these children hold onto hope for a peaceful future where they can contribute positively to their society.

International Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the rights and needs of children worldwide. In Sudan, it highlights the urgent necessity for peace and stability to allow these young dreams to flourish.

As the world observes this special day, the voices of Sudanese children call out for global attention and support. Their dreams are not just personal ambitions but a collective yearning for a brighter, more peaceful future for their country.
