Chengdu, China — Amid pressing global challenges such as climate change and energy shortages, experts at the Global Urban and Rural Development Forum have highlighted China’s experience in green development as a source of inspiration for countries worldwide.
The forum, a significant event of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), commenced on Friday in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Leaders and scholars gathered to discuss sustainable strategies for urban and rural development in Asia.
Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the BFA and former Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasized the importance of integrating green initiatives in both urban and rural settings. “Both urban and rural areas in Asia must pursue green development,” Ban stated during the opening ceremony. “Rural development can also be green, digital, and sustainable.”
He underscored China’s role in demonstrating effective sustainable practices, saying, “In the implementation process of sustainable development goals, rural and urban areas should go together. China can demonstrate some good examples. This is what we want to learn and explain to other people around the world.”
The forum provides a platform for sharing insights on how to tackle environmental challenges through innovation and collaboration. Participants discussed how China’s policies and advancements in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and urban planning offer valuable lessons for other nations striving for a greener future.
Experts noted that China’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and investing in clean energy technologies has positioned it as a leader in global sustainability efforts. The country’s endeavors in transforming its economic growth model towards a more eco-friendly trajectory serve as a roadmap for integrating environmental priorities with economic development.
The discussions at the forum highlighted the critical need for international cooperation in addressing climate change. By sharing experiences and solutions, countries can accelerate progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global Urban and Rural Development Forum continues over the weekend, featuring sessions on technological innovation, green finance, and policy frameworks essential for sustainable development.
