Since October 7, 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 100,000 people being killed or wounded, leading to the shutdown of every medical facility in the region.
A blockade has caused severe shortages of essential supplies, including medicines, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and leading to the deaths of many who have been injured.
“All the hospitals have been attacked. Virtually every medical facility has shut down. The entire emergency response system is paralyzed,” said Dr. Moatasem Saeed Salah, director of the Health Emergency Operations Center at the Gaza Ministry of Health.
He also highlighted the dangers faced by medical staff. “They’ve also been viciously attacked,” he said. “In all, 492 medical personnel have been killed in the attacks.”
The shutdown of medical facilities and the targeting of healthcare workers have intensified the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, raising urgent concerns from international observers and human rights organizations.
