Chinese swimmer Wang Shun is intensifying his preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics, aspiring to replicate his gold medal performance from Tokyo 2020 in the men’s 200-meter individual medley.
At 30 years old, Wang is gearing up for his fourth Olympic appearance. His journey has been marked by steady progress: from finishing 22nd in his Olympic debut at London 2012, to capturing bronze in Rio 2016, and ultimately standing atop the podium in Tokyo.
The Zhejiang Province native showcased exceptional form at last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games, securing four gold medals. Notably, he clinched the 200-meter individual medley title with a time of 1 minute 54.62 seconds, surpassing his gold-winning time in Tokyo by 0.38 seconds.
Looking ahead to Paris, Wang is setting his sights even higher as he aims to defend his Olympic title. “Compared to the Tokyo Games, I now have a deeper understanding of the 200-meter individual medley,” Wang reflected. “I’ve been able to make quick adjustments across different swimming strokes.”
“Throughout the winter, I engaged in intensive training, simulating real competition environments to enhance my sense of speed in the pool,” he added. “I’m committed to working hard and preparing for any challenges that lie ahead. I believe I can handle whatever comes my way.”
