Team China Dominates Doubles on Opening Day of 2024 Malaysia Masters

Team China’s badminton players made a strong start at the 2024 Malaysia Masters on Tuesday, dominating the doubles events on the opening day of the tournament.

In the women’s doubles, Keng Shuliang and Zhang Chi showcased exceptional skill, defeating Hung Yi-Ting and Lee Yu-Hsuan from the Chinese Taipei team with a score of 21-14, 21-15. Their compatriots, Li Yijing and Luo Xumin, also advanced to the last 16 after a convincing 21-10, 21-18 victory over Chinese Taipei pair Cheng Yu-Pei and Sun Yu-Hsing.

On the men’s side, the third-seeded duo of He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu demonstrated their prowess by overcoming Chang Ko-Chi and Po Li-Wei of the Chinese Taipei team 21-12, 23-21, securing a spot in the second round. However, fellow Chinese players Xie Haonan and Zeng Weihan faced a setback, falling to Malaysia’s Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King 21-16, 21-12.

The Malaysia Masters, which commenced on May 21 and runs until May 26, sees teams competing for crucial points to enhance their international rankings. These rankings will play a significant role in determining the seedings for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
