Christian Bruch, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy, has underscored the indispensable role of China in the global shift towards renewable energy. Speaking to reporters this week, Bruch stated that an energy transition without China is unfeasible, particularly highlighting the challenges of building wind turbines in Europe without Chinese supplies.
“The last thing I would do is to advocate something like departing or de-risking,” Bruch said, as reported by Reuters on Friday. “We have a connectivity between the two regions that is fruitful and unavoidable.”
His remarks come amid the European Union’s recent subsidy investigations into Chinese wind turbine manufacturers—the fourth such probe targeting Chinese firms within two months. The investigations reflect growing concerns over market imbalances and competition practices.
The production of wind turbines heavily depends on materials sourced from China, including rare earth elements and permanent magnets. These components are critical for the efficiency and effectiveness of renewable energy technologies.
