Speaking on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Culture in Beijing, President Xi emphasized the need to unlock the potential of cultural collaboration and jointly usher in a new era of bilateral exchanges.

The event also commemorated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, marking a milestone in their shared history. Russian President Vladimir Putin, on a two-day state visit to China, joined President Xi at the ceremony, underscoring the importance both countries place on their enduring partnership.

“Over the past 75 years, China-Russia relations have demonstrated that strengthening enduring good-neighborliness and friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation serve the fundamental interests of our countries and peoples,” President Xi stated. “This aligns with the expectations of the international community and the trend of the times, having irreplaceable significance.”

President Xi highlighted the tradition of hosting theme years in each other’s countries as a hallmark of people-to-people and cultural exchanges. “This practice has become a distinctive feature in the history of our bilateral relations and is warmly welcomed by our peoples,” he noted.

The China-Russia Years of Culture is expected to feature a series of events aimed at deepening mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations. Cultural programs, artistic performances, and educational exchanges are set to promote shared values and strengthen ties at all levels of society.

President Putin echoed these sentiments, expressing his commitment to furthering cultural connections. “Our cultural cooperation is a crucial component of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and China,” he remarked.

The leaders’ focus on cultural collaboration reflects a broader effort to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including economics, technology, and international affairs.
