Kai-Fu Lee, a prominent figure in artificial intelligence and CEO of AI startup 01.AI, unveiled the company’s latest large language model, Yi-Large, on Monday. As chairman of Sinovation Ventures, Lee is well-known for his contributions to AI development in Asia.
Lee announced that Yi-Large, a closed-source model boasting billions of parameters, has evaluations that surpass OpenAI’s GPT-4. “Our model has achieved remarkable results, positioning us ahead in the competitive AI landscape,” Lee stated.
According to the latest rankings by Stanford’s evaluation agency AlpacaEval 2.0, Yi-Large’s English ability, measured by the LC Win Rate metric, ranked third globally as of May 14. It trails only behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 Omni and Turbo models.
This achievement places Yi-Large among the leading AI models in the world, highlighting the rapid advancement of AI technology in Asia. The model’s high ranking indicates significant progress in natural language processing capabilities, which could have wide-ranging implications for industries relying on AI technologies.
Lee’s announcement underscores the growing competition in the AI sector, with Asian companies increasingly contributing to global innovation. The development of Yi-Large signifies a step forward in AI research, potentially offering new opportunities for businesses and researchers worldwide.
