China concluded the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, with a dominant performance, securing seven gold medals and topping the medal tally. Central to China’s success was Liu Yukun, who shattered the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions world record twice in as many days.

On Thursday, Liu improved the existing world record by 1.2 points, clinching gold with a score of 467.3 points. Not resting on his laurels, he returned on Saturday to surpass his own record, achieving a remarkable 468.9 points—averaging over 10.4 points per shot.

In Saturday’s competition, Liu was in a league of his own. He tallied 156.6 points after the first 15 shots in the kneeling position, establishing a 2.3-point lead over Croatia’s Miran Maricic. Continuing his dominant form in the prone position, Liu accumulated 315.1 points after 15 shots, extending his lead to 4.2 points.

Despite a slight slip with a 9.5 in his penultimate standing shot, Liu maintained his composure to secure the gold medal and set a new world record. His exceptional performance contributed significantly to China’s overall success at the event.

The ISSF World Cup in Baku showcased the prowess of athletes from around the globe, but it was China’s shooters who stood out, demonstrating skill, consistency, and excellence in the sport of shooting.
