Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, visited the historic Buda Castle in Budapest on Thursday, where she shared tea with Zsuzsanna Nagy, wife of Tamas Sulyok, President of the Constitutional Court of Hungary. The meeting highlighted the growing cultural ties between China and Hungary.
During their visit, the two first ladies admired an exhibition of Hungarian Herend porcelain and traditional embroidery craftsmanship. Peng expressed her admiration for the exquisite porcelain and superb embroidery, noting the shared appreciation for such arts in both Chinese and Hungarian cultures.
“Porcelain and embroidery are common symbols of the civilizations of China and Hungary,” Peng remarked. “I hope that artists from both countries can strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, promoting cultural integration.”
The pair also received a briefing on the restoration of the Szent István Hall of Buda Castle. Impressed by the meticulous restoration efforts, Peng conveyed her hope for increased cooperation in cultural relic protection and restoration between the two nations, ensuring that historical legacies are preserved for future generations.
Over tea, Peng and Nagy engaged in a friendly and cordial conversation. Peng praised Hungary as a beautiful country with hospitable people, highlighting the many cultural similarities between China and Hungary and the deep sense of affinity shared by their peoples.
