Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake Strikes Ngari Prefecture in Southwest China’s Xizang

An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.2 struck Ngari Prefecture in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC). The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Ngari Prefecture, located in the western part of the Xizang Autonomous Region, is characterized by its high-altitude terrain and sparse population. The area is known for its mountainous landscapes and is home to several important cultural and historical sites.

At this time, there have been no reports of casualties or damage. Authorities are monitoring the situation and gathering information from the affected areas.

Earthquakes are relatively common in the Xizang Autonomous Region due to its location along the tectonic boundaries of the Himalayas. The region’s geological activity results from the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Residents in surrounding areas are advised to remain alert and follow guidance from local authorities.
