Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu held the inaugural China-Kazakhstan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Beijing on Friday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the strong momentum of development in China-Kazakhstan relations. Under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ leaders, he noted that the bilateral relationship has become a model of mutual trust, support, and assistance among neighboring countries.
China expressed readiness to work with Kazakhstan to expand trade within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Wang Yi called for jointly building a high-quality, sustainable, and resilient new corridor of connectivity, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and promoting cooperation in new fields.
Murat Nurtleu highlighted that Kazakhstan prioritizes its diplomatic agenda with China. He affirmed Kazakhstan’s firm support for China in safeguarding its core interests on issues related to the island of Taiwan and Xinjiang. Nurtleu expressed willingness to strengthen political mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
The two sides jointly announced the establishment of a strategic dialogue mechanism between their foreign ministers. They agreed to promote high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen sub-national and people-to-people exchanges, and enhance cooperation against interference and infiltration.
The discussions also covered upgrading law enforcement and security cooperation, improving and strengthening the China-Central Asia mechanism, and supporting each other during their rotating presidencies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Both countries pledged to cooperate closely within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
