Chinese Vice Premier Emphasizes Innovation as Primary Force in China’s Development at Zhongguancun Forum
Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has underscored the pivotal role of innovation as the driving force behind China’s development. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum on Thursday, Ding highlighted the nation’s commitment to fostering scientific and technological advancement.
Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, detailed how China has implemented an innovation-driven development strategy. “We have achieved new breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation,” he stated, “cultivating new industries, business models, and growth drivers that have become prominent highlights of our economic and social development.”
The Vice Premier emphasized the crucial role of Zhongguancun, often referred to as China’s “Silicon Valley,” in advancing high-level scientific and technological self-reliance. “Zhongguancun should further advance pilot reforms and accelerate the construction of a world-class science and technology park,” Ding urged, calling for continued efforts to build Beijing into an international hub for innovation.
Highlighting China’s openness to international collaboration, Ding expressed the country’s willingness to work with the global community. “China is willing to put into action the principles of open, fair, just, and non-discriminatory international cooperation in science and technology,” he said. “We aim to foster a global community of science and technology.”
Ding called on the international community to “jointly create an open innovation ecosystem, cultivate and develop new quality productive forces, and solve major scientific and technological problems.”
The 2024 Zhongguancun Forum, themed “Innovating for a Better World,” attracted approximately 1,000 participants, including scientific and technological experts from home and abroad, business leaders, government officials, and representatives of international organizations. The event serves as a platform for sharing insights and fostering partnerships in the field of innovation.
