The Palais des Nations in Geneva came alive on April 23 as the 4th International Chinese Language Video Festival brought together over 300 guests to celebrate youth and multiculturalism. Hosted jointly by China Media Group (CMG), the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, and other international organizations in Switzerland, the festival showcased the unifying power of language and media.

Under the theme “Youth Together for a Better World“, the festival highlighted video productions from young creators around the globe. Since its launch on March 19, the event received an impressive 1,009 entries from 47 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Poland, and Argentina. These works reflect diverse perspectives and stories, united by a common desire to foster understanding and collaboration across cultures.

Distinguished attendees included Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, and Ambassador Chen Xu, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland. Diplomats, officials, and youth representatives from various international organizations joined the event, emphasizing the global significance of the festival.

In her opening remarks, Director-General Valovaya praised the festival for promoting cultural exchange and empowering young voices. “The contributions of youth are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world,” she stated. Ambassador Chen Xu echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of the Chinese language as a bridge connecting people worldwide.

The festival not only celebrates the richness of the Chinese language but also encourages dialogue among different cultures. By providing a platform for young creators to share their visions, it fosters mutual understanding and paves the way for collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, events like the CMG Chinese Language Video Festival play a crucial role in uniting people across borders. Through the lens of youth, the festival underscores the importance of cultural diversity and the collective pursuit of a better future.
