China and Gabon marked a significant milestone on Saturday as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Gabonese Transitional President Brice Oligui Nguema exchanged congratulatory messages to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
In his message, President Xi highlighted the enduring traditional friendship between China and Gabon, noting that it has strengthened over time. “Over the past 50 years, despite changes in the international situation, our two countries have always treated each other as equals and supported each other,” Xi said. “Bilateral relations have been constantly upgraded, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples.”
President Xi emphasized his commitment to advancing China-Gabon relations, stating his readiness to work with President Nguema to build upon this strong foundation. “Taking the 50th anniversary as a new starting point, we will carry forward our traditional friendship, deepen practical cooperation, and enrich the connotation of the China-Gabon comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership,” Xi added. “Together, we can build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.”
President Nguema echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the mutual trust and sincerity that have characterized the relationship between Gabon and China since the establishment of diplomatic ties. “Our bilateral relations have embraced steady development and mutually beneficial cooperation across economic, social, military, and other spheres, yielding fruitful results,” Nguema said.
He reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to the one-China principle, stating, “Gabon firmly adheres to the one-China principle and regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of China.”
