Siberian Cranes Flock to Momoge Wetlands in NE China for Annual Migration

The tranquil Momoge Wetlands in Zhenlai County, Jilin Province, have become a bustling sanctuary as thousands of Siberian cranes descend during their annual migration. This breathtaking phenomenon peaks every spring and autumn, turning the wetlands into a haven for bird enthusiasts and conservationists alike.

Recognized as a nationally protected species in China, the Siberian crane is one of the most endangered crane species globally, with a population of less than 6,000. Remarkably, approximately 60% of these majestic birds make a stopover at the Momoge Wetlands, underscoring the area’s critical role in their survival.

“The arrival of the Siberian cranes is a testament to the health of our ecosystem,” said a local wildlife expert. “Their presence here highlights the importance of preserving habitats that are vital for migratory species.”

The influx of these elegant white cranes has earned Zhenlai County the moniker “Hometown of White Cranes.” The local community embraces this natural spectacle, promoting ecotourism and raising awareness about wildlife conservation.

CMG reporter Han Ziqiao ventured into the wetlands to capture live coverage of the cranes in their natural habitat, offering viewers a rare glimpse into this extraordinary event.
