Foreign Exhibitors Address China’s ‘Overcapacity’ Concerns at Hainan Expo

At a recent press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed concerns regarding China’s production capacity. Responding to questions about claims from the United States and the European Union of alleged “overcapacity” in Chinese-made electric vehicles and solar panels, Lin noted that China is aware of these assertions and is considering appropriate measures.

The term “overcapacity” refers to a situation where supply exceeds demand, leading to surplus production. This issue has been a point of discussion among international trade partners, particularly in industries where China has significant export volumes.

At the 4th China International Consumer Products Expo held in Haikou, south China’s Hainan Province, foreign exhibitors shared their perspectives on China’s production capacity and the opportunities in the Chinese market. The Expo attracted businesses and investors from around the world, showcasing a diverse range of consumer products.

Many exhibitors expressed optimism about the Chinese market’s potential. “China’s advancements in technology and manufacturing have opened up new possibilities for international collaboration,” said Maria Lopez, a representative from a Spanish electric vehicle company. “We see great potential in partnering with Chinese firms to meet global energy demands.”

Others highlighted the importance of understanding market dynamics. “Overcapacity can be a challenge, but it also signals a country’s ability to scale production,” remarked James Thompson, a British solar panel manufacturer. “The key is to align production with global needs and work towards sustainable growth.”

The Expo provided a platform for dialogue on how to balance production and demand effectively. Exhibitors emphasized the significance of cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change and energy transition.

“China plays a crucial role in the global supply chain,” noted Ayumi Tanaka, a Japanese consumer electronics exhibitor. “By working together, we can innovate and find solutions that benefit all parties involved.”

As discussions on production capacity continue, foreign businesses remain engaged with the Chinese market, recognizing its impact on global economic trends. The Consumer Products Expo serves as a testament to ongoing international interest and collaboration in China’s evolving economic landscape.
