Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is poised for a crucial showdown against Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday. After a narrow 3-2 loss at home in the first leg on April 10, PSG faces an uphill battle at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona, Spain.
PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, remains optimistic about his team’s chances of turning the tide. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Enrique expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to overcome the deficit and secure a spot in the semifinals.
“PSG have never come back to win after losing a first leg, but tomorrow is the day,” Enrique declared. “After a defeat in such an important game, the days after the match were hard. It’s tricky to recover mentally, but the good thing about football is you have another game against the same opponent.”
Enrique managed Barcelona between 2014 and 2017, a period during which the La Liga giants met PSG six times in the Champions League and won four of those games. The Round of 16 clash in the 2016-17 campaign witnessed one of the most epic comeback victories in football history. Barcelona lost to PSG 4-0 at the Parc des Princes in the first leg but rallied 6-1 in the second leg at Camp Nou to eliminate the Ligue 1 powerhouse.
As the two teams prepare to face off once again, all eyes will be on whether PSG can script a comeback of their own and advance in the Champions League.
