The official confirmation came on April 10, ending months of speculation and uncertainty following the termination of Blizzard’s previous partnership with NetEase in early 2023. The breakdown in negotiations was reportedly due to disagreements over contract terms, including profit-sharing and upfront payments.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023 appears to have influenced the renewal of this vital partnership. While previous frustrations among Chinese gamers regarding Blizzard’s handling of the market have been noted, the swift engagement of over two million players on the new Blizzard.cn website indicates a strong and enduring fan base.
