At the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup held in Phuket on Tuesday, China’s Wang Zhouyu showcased remarkable strength by securing three silver medals in the women’s 81 kg category. Wang successfully lifted 120 kg in the snatch and 147 kg in the clean and jerk, culminating in a total of 267 kg.
Her compatriot, Liang Xiaomei, despite recently sustaining a waist injury, competed and ranked seventh in the same category. Liang currently holds the world records in clean and jerk and total weight for the women’s 81 kg category, with an impressive total of 284 kg. Though she underperformed in this round due to her injury, Liang maintains her lead in the qualifying standings for the Paris Olympics.
The performances of Wang and Liang highlight China’s continued prominence in the world of weightlifting. Their dedication and resilience, especially in the face of injury, inspire not only fans back home but also the global weightlifting community as they set their sights on the upcoming Olympic Games.
