Micronesian President Wesley W. Simina to Visit China to Boost Bilateral Relations

President Wesley W. Simina of the Federated States of Micronesia is set to embark on a state visit to China from April 5 to 12 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.

During his stay, President Simina will engage in discussions with Chinese leaders to enhance the development of bilateral relations and address issues of mutual concern. According to Wang Wenbin, another spokesperson for the ministry, the leaders will have an “in-depth exchange of views” aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two nations.

Over the past 35 years since establishing diplomatic ties, China and the Federated States of Micronesia have witnessed significant progress in their relationship. “Practical cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, benefiting the two peoples and promoting regional peace, stability, and development,” Wang highlighted at a regular press briefing.

China has expressed its willingness to use this visit as an opportunity to enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Micronesia. “We look forward to working together to push for further development of our bilateral relations,” Wang added.

The visit underscores the growing importance of Pacific island nations in China’s foreign policy and highlights the mutual interests shared by both countries in areas such as economic development, environmental conservation, and regional security.
